Join photographer Georgina Valentine on this day workshop to learn how to use your DSLR camera.
In this workshop Georgina will teach you the fundamentals of photography, focusing on shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Through examples, demos and a mini practical, you will develop the skills to freeze or blur movement and learn to control how much of your image is in focus.
You will then explore how an understanding of light, and even tiny alterations to composition can transform your photography. Georgina will discuss the impact different lenses can have and also touch on focusing modes. After lunch, you will head out to the Abbey Grounds to put what you have learnt into practise. You will do this through a combination of themed photo challenges and freestyling. Georgina will be on hand throughout to guide you and answer your questions.
You will then return to the studio to review the photos, and finish by sharing your images and discussing what worked and what didn’t – and why. It’s the ones that don’t quite work to plan that teach us the most. You will leave this workshop with the skills to use your camera’s semi-automatic modes to affect motion and depth of field. A great stepping stone to going fully manual.
