Join Emma Leyfield for a half day workshop in mixing watercolours, looking at the colours of winter and how best to use your paints

Winter has been accused of being bleak but each month has it's place and rituals to move through it. If you've previously attended one of Emma’s classes, and have been dabbling a little, or perhaps haven't lifted a brush since, then this is your opportunity for a refresher. This class is also suitable as a taster session for beginners at watercolours, or those who feel that mixing colours is something they struggle with.

The session includes a sketchbook prompt focusing on the colours of winter, window views, and cosy sketch-booking through the season.

If you have a set of watercolours that you use at home, you're welcome to bring this for a 'watercolour consultation'. This is to talk through what colours you have, others you might need and the difference between different brands and types of watercolours. Professional watercolours are provided for you to test out during the session.

Meet your tutor

Emma's work is inspired by the simple delight of beautiful things. Observed and studied in a pocket sketchbook, these paintings feed into larger pictures and ideas. She's currently completing an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. Around her studies, she illustrates a regular column for the English Garden Magazine from her studio in Nailsworth and teaches workshops in Gloucestershire. Emma runs a regular Life Drawing class here at the New Brewery Arts on Thursdays as well as a mixture of workshops that focus on traditional aspects of drawing and watercolours.
