Join portrait artist and illustrator, Emma Leyfield, for a Saturday morning life drawing class followed by a sociable brunch in our café. Gain a deeper understanding of proportions, lighting, form, and anatomy as you explore the artistic interpretation of the human figure.

This sociable Saturday morning life class is a one off session for those who can't make a regular weekly setting (or who can but like the idea of this class!) The twist? We'll all sit down for an early lunch afterwards. Life drawing is an opportunity for creatives to get chatting in the breaks and look at each other's work but fundamentally it's a quiet class - that's what we like about it. So this is the best of both worlds.

Pencils, paper and charcoal provided, please feel free to bring any other materials you'd like to use. Whether you are a beginner looking to develop foundational skills or an experienced artist aiming to refine your techniques, our instructors will nurture your artistic growth and challenge you to reach new heights.

meet the tutor

Emma is an emerging artist and freelance illustrator who specialises in watercolours and portraiture and is known for her sketchbooks, which she makes through bookbinding.

Greatly inspired by the works of Shirley Hughes and Quentin Blake, She is passionate about the importance of learning traditional methods of drawing, which are now being lost as modern art becomes more prevalent in illustration and digital mediums are become more widely used. This is visible in her work which is often described as reminding the viewer of the traditional illustrations they remember from their childhood.

Emma's work is inspired by the simple delight of beautiful things. Observed and studied in a pocket sketchbook, these paintings feed into larger pictures and ideas.
