Join us for a 2-day workshop where you will have the opportunity to explore the possibilities of screen-printing and mark-making on to cloth using procion dyes. This weekend workshop is suitable for all abilities and those with artistic experience who wish to expand their existing skill set or embed existing learning into their creative practice.

Through the exploration and experimentation of a range of processes you will develop an understanding of layering and colour mixing, pattern, surface texture and design. You will create a series of samples and fabric pieces that will form a reference library for future experiments and create starting points for your personal creative development. Using Procion dyes as your medium will allow you to explore building up surface texture, pattern and layering colour through printing with a variety of techniques, including a range of temporary resists and a silk screen, onto fabric.

Within these processes you will look at the design elements of composition, texture, scale, shape and colour. This will be supported by discussion that will help you develop your ideas and how to apply them to your own creative designs.

The course is suitable for all abilities and those who want to embed the learning within their own creative practice. All that is needed is a sense of curiosity and a willingness to experiment in a relaxed and supportive environment. Those new to the process will gain an understanding of a range of techniques which they can develop further within textiles or utilise in other artistic practices.

You will all come away with a set of samples that can be used as a reference library for future experiments and the knowledge of how to carry on creating with these techniques. It has been designed so that all the processes learnt are accessible and achievable in a home environment or a studio with limited equipment.
