Join Stone Carver and Sculptor Ellie Brown for a 2-day stone carving workshop using the Cornish Soapstone, Polyphant. Spend two days, learning about stone carving and carve your own Ancient Cycladic sculpture in the beautiful dark green Polyphant stone.

This workshop is 2-day weekend course, you will be using the Cornish Soapstone, Polyphant with Stone Carver and Sculptor Elle Brown. The workshop will focus on producing your own Ancient Cycladic sculpture, stencils will be provided for the figures, or alternatively you can design your own.

The course will cover the process of carving a sculpture ‘in the round’ (‘roughing out’, adding detail and finishing with a polished piece). Participants will also learn all about the tools and techniques used within the broader landscape of stone carving.

It is both a history workshop and a stone carving workshop. The students will be learning about ancient Cycladic sculptures as well as the tradition and skill of stone carving. Learning about all the different tools and also techniques to carving a piece from start to finish. At the end of the course, everyone will have a finished figure sculpted in the beautiful dark green Polyphant stone, along with a pre-made Oak base for display purposes.

You will need to wear a FFP3 mask (provided)

You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food into the studio.

Who is this course for?

This class is suitable for beginners as it will cover the basics and develop over the two days.

What you will need:
